In 1996, Prince married Mayte Garcia, one of his backup singers. Their first child, a son, was born prematurely, and reportedly died just hours after his birth as a result of a rare skull defect. The impact the child's short life left on Prince can still be heard: the baby's heartbeat was mixed into the song "Sex in the Summer" on Prince's album Emancipation.
